In order for you to be prepared
for your new arrival, we interviewed a few new and experienced
mothers. We asked them to share with you, some of the
basic, but very important list of baby needs.
Your shopping list
cribs
Your
newborn is going to spend most of his/her time in the crib,
therefore cribs must be not only comfortable but most of
all - SAFE. As a new parent you need to make sure that the
cribs you are considering to buy, comply with both mandatory
and voluntary safety standards.
Here is a check list of the main elements in a safe crib:
The railing lowers down to a
point that you can pick up your baby easily. The side doors
must be at least 9 inches above the mattress support when
lowered. When raised, the top of the side door must be at
least 26 inches above the support at its lowest position.
Slats that are close enough together
to prevent your baby's head from slipping through or getting
stuck. The distance between the crib slats must be no more
than 2 3/8 inches.
Buy bumper bedding and pad the
inside railings of the crib to cushion all four sides. It
also keeps your baby from sticking an arm or leg through
the railings.
The frame size should accommodate
a standard crib mattress,
a minimum of 51 inches long by 27 3/4 inches wide.
