strollers

The stroller is the baby's vehicle, and it will be used for a few years. So make sure you purchase only known brand names, that meet all mandatory and voluntary safety standards.

There are three main types of strollers:

• Lightweight portable.
• Heavy full-featured.
• Old-fashioned carriage

Lightweight Strollers: Lightweight strollers generally weigh less than 15 pounds, fold up compactly, and are easy to carry. They are sometimes called umbrella strollers because their handles are often curved. They're an inexpensive and convenient option for toddlers. On the other hand, they're not as comfortable or adjustable as larger strollers. This makes them a less suitable option for infants.

Heavy full-featured: Heavyweight strollers generally weigh over 15 pounds. They're very comfortable and adjustable to the baby age, size and activity. They also can be used later on for toddlers.

Old-fashioned carriage: Convertible strollers can be used as a carriage or a stroller. The carriage position allows a newborn to ride almost flat on his back. The stroller position lets your baby ride sitting upright. Changing positions is usually as easy as flipping a switch. Convertible strollers are more expensive than lightweight models, but they do grow with your baby.

Here's what you would need to look for
before purchasing…

Locking System: All strollers must have an easy-to-use locking system that prevents it from collapsing or folding accidentally.

Seat belts: Test the belts' restraint system. Toddlers can escape out of the strollers without it. The belts should be attached to the stroller body in three-point, and wrap around the baby's waist and between his legs.

Comfortable handle height: The ideal handle height is waist-level or slightly below. If you are taller than average you may want a stroller with adjustable handlebars.

An adjustable seat: Does the stroller seat recline? Is it easy to adjust? A reclining seat is a must for comfortable napping on the go.

A canopy: A shade to protect your child from the sun, rain, and wind can make rides more comfortable.

Washable fabric: Removable fabric covers can make cleanups easier.
